About Dr. Lim Choon Pin

Dr Lim Choon Pin is a Consultant Cardiologist in private practice with subspecialty research interests in Echocardiography, Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support Devices (Artificial Heart Pumps) and Heart Transplantation. He was previously a Consultant Cardiologist at the Department of Cardiology, National Heart Centre Singapore and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and the National University of Singapore, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Apart from managing general cardiology conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart valve conditions and arrhythmia issues, Dr Lim also cares for critically ill patients with advanced heart failure on life support and mechanical circulatory support systems in the Intensive Care Units. He also performs advanced transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, including 3-dimensional echocardiography, strain imaging and contrast echocardiography.

Dr Lim Choon Pin graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2003. Subsequently, he obtained Membership to the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) (United Kingdom) and graduated with a Master Degree in Internal Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 2008. He was awarded the Ministry of Health’s Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship in 2013 to further train in Advanced Heart Failure, Heart Transplantation and Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD) at the renowned heart transplant centre St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia. Dr Lim is also trained in Advanced Echocardiography and was accredited by the European Society of Cardiovascular Imaging in Transthoracic and Transoesophageal Echocardiography in 2013.

Aside from clinical work, Dr Lim Choon Pin is also actively involved in advocating patient safety and promoting patient education. He was appointed by the Ministry of Health as a Consultant and Deputy Chairman of the Heart Failure Services Improvement Programme in 2016 and was the Chairman of Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation Committee at the National Heart Centre Singapore in 2017. 

He is currently Treasurer and Council Member of the Heart Failure Society of Singapore and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, European Society of Cardiology and Academy of Medicine Singapore.
