About Dr Errol CHAN

Dr Errol Chan is Medical Director and Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist at Ascend Eye Clinic in Singapore. A dedicated clinician, he has more than 17 years of clinical experience and has performed more than 10,000 eye procedures.
He graduated with MBBS and MMed (Ophthalmology) from the National University of Singapore (NUS), and achieved specialist training in Ophthalmology at the National University Health System (NUHS). He gained further expertise with international fellowships in Vitreoretinal Surgery, Medical Retina, and Uveitis at McGill University, Canada, and Moorfields Eye Hospital London, UK. He has also completed training stints at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and Optegra Eye Hospital London, both in the UK.
Dr Chan has been awarded fellowship qualifications in Ophthalmology by the multiple accreditation bodies, where he is:

Cataract Surgery

Dr Chan’s expertise is in performing standard and bladeless (femtosecond laser-assisted) cataract surgery procedures. He also manages complex and high-risk cataract cases, lens implant exchanges, secondary lens implants, and combined cataract surgery with glaucoma or retinal procedures. Dr Chan is well-versed in the range of options for patients desiring freedom from spectacles, through the use of monovision, and multifocal, extended range, and toric lens implants. His approach prioritises precision through utilising computer-assisted technology in cataract surgery.

Retinal Diseases and Surgery

As a vitreoretinal surgeon and retinal specialist as well, Dr Chan treats retinal tears, retinal detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, traumatic eye injury and diabetic retinopathy. He is experienced in surgery for complex retinal surgical cases, utilising minimally-invasive instrumentation. Dr Chan also treats age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular disease, and genetic retinal conditions, and offers patients a broad range of therapeutic drug, including recent anti-VEGF medications, and laser treatment options.

Dr Chan is an invited speaker at international ophthalmology conferences and has authored over 40 articles in leading medical journal and textbooks. He has received international awards, and has contributed in clinical trials as an investigator for new treatments for eye diseases. Dr Chan was also teaching faculty in the National Health Service and at McGill University, mentoring junior eye surgeons in their clinical and surgical training.
