Dr. Edwin Heng Chia Kian

Dr. Edwin Heng is a periodontist with an interesting career portfolio that includes being the SAF Head Dental Officer (2006-2008) and Head of General Staff, HQ Medical Corps (2010-2011). He left the military service in 2011 and has since been in private practice. He was also elected as the Vice President of the Singapore Dental Association from 2010-2012.

From 2008-2009, he was attached to the prestigious Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in Boston as a Visiting Adjunct Faculty, where he helped the Periodontal Department to direct both didactics and clinical components in Graduate Periodontics. He has also been a Visiting Consultant to Alexandra Hospital (2007-2008) and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (2010-2012).

Dr. Heng first graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1999, winning the gold medal for being the best all-round final year dental student of his cohort. He was also awarded the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Postgraduate Scholarship in 2001 and further obtained his Master’s in Oral Biology and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (Periodontology) from the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2004. He attained his FAMS (Periodontology) specialist exit requirement in 2010.

Apart from clinical work, Dr. Heng believes in continuing education and constant upgrading one’s skills. He lectures and gives hands-on courses frequently within the Asian dental circuit in the realms of Periodontics and Implant dentistry. He is also widely sought after as an international consultant and speaker for global periodontal and dental implant companies.

Dr. Heng’s clinical expertise and constant involvement in education also led him to become the first Singaporean dentist to be appointed as a Clinical Professor (Adjunct) in Kanagawa Dental University in Yokosuka, Japan, since April 2016. Dr. Heng is fluent in English, Mandarin and Japanese.
