About Dr Christopher LIU
Dr Christopher Liu is a highly experienced Senior Consultant in Pain Medicine. He provides expert care for patients suffering from various types of pain – such as spine, musculoskeletal and nerve pain. He is also highly regarded for his deep expertise in headache and facial pain management.
Education and Experience
Dr Liu graduated from the University of New South Wales (BSc, MBBS Honours) in 2008 and from the National University of Singapore (MMED Anaesthesia) in 2014. After his medical training, he relocated to Singapore where he underwent further training in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine with the Singhealth Anesthesia Residency Program. After qualifying as a specialist in 2016, Dr Liu went on to pursue a prestigious Fellowship in Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto. During this fellowship, he was appointed Chief Pain Fellow at Toronto Western Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital and Women’s College Hospital.
Prior to private practice in 2024, Dr Liu was a Senior Consultant at the Department of Pain Medicine at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). During this same period, he was also appointed as the Lead of the Ultrasound Injection Clinic, Director of Acute Pain Services, SGH Medical Board Member and Department Lead for Value-Driven Care.
Dr Liu is a leader in Pain Medicine. As an Asst Professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, he has published more than 30 research papers in high-impact journals and is highly cited for his work. Apart from that, he has been serving as a board member and Pain section editor of the British Journal of Anaesthesia Education.

Dr Liu’s clinical expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of acute and chronic pain conditions, including:
- Musculoskeletal pain (including back, neck, and joint pain)
- Frozen shoulder treatment
- Headaches and Facial Pain
- Nerve Pain
- Cancer pain management
Dr Liu does not believe in a one-sized fits all solution to pain. Rather, he believes that the successful treatment of pain comes with an accurate diagnosis of the pain generator, evidence-based treatment and collaborative decision-making.
Notwithstanding, he is well-versed in the latest interventional pain procedures such as Nerve Block, Spine and Joint Radiofrequency Ablation, Nucleoplasty, Ultrasound-guided injections and Spinal Cord Stimulation Implantation. He is one of the first pain specialists to perform genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation in Singapore.
